We get asked lots of questions about our company and shave ice in general.  Here are some of the more common questions we run into.

Q) What does SoHa mean?

SoHa is short for South Hawaii. In Lower Manhattan, New York City, there is a neighborhood known as SoHo. SoHo is known for its trendy, upscale boutiques and plethora of artists and art galleries. At SoHa Shave Ice, we like to think of our selves as Shave Ice artists and our goal is to create trendy boutique popup environments our customers will love.

Q) Why Shave Ice and not Shaved Ice?

In Hawaii shaved ice is known as Shave Ice. Not “shaved.” We are trying to bring the spirit of Hawaii back to the mainland so we have kept our name to the traditional “Shave Ice.” You will notice that our website domain name lands on Shaved Ice though whether you put in Shave or Shaved Ice. This is because 99% of the population here in the continental US calls it “shaved iced” rather than “shave ice” and we thought it would be a good idea to make the website land on what most people type in.

Q) What is Shave Ice?

Shaved ice can mean a variety of things depending on whom you are speaking with. To us at SoHa Shaved ice it means creating the lightest, fluffiest shaved ice on industry leading block ice shavers. Many people are familiar with the granular texture of a snow cone. This is not shave ice. Shave ice is like real snow. It is so light and fluffy the flavor absorbs into the ice rather than passing through like a snow cone. Trust us – if you have never had shave ice made on a top of the line block shaver, you are in for a real treat!
